Payson Jazz began more than 21 years ago when Gerry Reynolds and Pastor Chuck Proudfoot launched a small but spirited concert series at the Presbyterian Church. What started as a gathering held every second Sunday of the month grew into a beloved community tradition. Over the years, the schedule shifted to eight concerts annually, until the COVID pandemic brought the music to an unexpected pause.
During that challenging season, hope arrived in the form of a special fundraiser. Grammy-nominated jazz pianist and vocalist Judy Roberts, along with several talented friends, generously performed to help raise funds for a new church piano. The event was a tremendous success and sustained the concert series through donations for years to follow.
Gerry began the Payson Jazz Concerts shortly after retiring and moving to Payson. His lifelong devotion to jazz continues to shape the heart of this series. Gerry has also served on the board of Jazz in AZ and was the longtime drummer for the weekly jazz jam at Pita Jungle. His deep connections within the Valley’s jazz community allow Payson to welcome extraordinary artists year after year.
Today, Payson Jazz thrives because of Gerry’s passion, the generosity of remarkable musicians, and the faithful support of our community.
And yes — it continues because of you.
Your donations keep the music playing in Payson.
